Questa è per la Frobin e Sanami, la posto per entrambe:
1. It’s a Numbers Game, Matching outfits, Matching accessories
@sanjiafsincedayone already has copious meta on the link between numbers between Nami and Sanji, but just to name a few, pretty obvious is the prominence of the number 3 between the both of them, also Sanji was the face on the spine of volume 73 (na-mi).
As for Frobin, we have this:
Her prison number is the combination of Franky’s birthday (March 9) and her birthday (February 6). I think this one’s pretty much on the nose. These aren’t really clues as to Oda’s intention, but it’s fun to spot them, and we do know that he puts symbolism as to his use of numbers.
Matching Outfits!
Might as well include that in Thriller Bark, while Nami was a given, the style of Sanji’s suit in that arc very closely resembled a black tux or groom’s outfit. It’s not that obvious in the anime, but in the manga, Sanji was wearing all black, a formal double breasted coat and inner shirt and a white tie. Meanwhile with the recent Volume 88 cover reveal, I was quite surprised to see that Nami’s outfit was white! Didn’t expect it at all. And with the recent bridal carry, well…
Meanwhile in Zou, both Sanji and Nami’s outfits were color-coordinated in that they shared the same colors with each other - yellow, orange, black, white, red.
2. Their Narrative Significance in Each Other’s Stories
Franky and Nami were, I wouldn’t say driving forces I guess since the crew is what I would consider a driving force in getting Robin and Sanji back, but one has to admit that, next to Luffy, they were featured most prominently in Robin and Sanji’s rescue arcs respectively. Oda even confirmed this through Luffy, where he pointed out to Sanji that Nami and the others were the ones most worried about him.
I also like these parts:
The fact that they were the ones to say the words, and the fact that the words themselves had such a deep impact on Robin and Sanji precisely because of their pasts, even if Franky, Nami, and even we, the audience, didn’t know it at the time.
There’s also somewhat of a connection between their themes and histories. Again, other frobin and sanami fans have already had posts detailing this. But to name a few, the tie between Franky and Robin as being the keys to Pluton, and the subtle tie between their histories. Similarly, both Sanji and Nami were interested about each other’s histories. Sanji was the one to confront Jinbei about Arlong, while Nami was the one to remember tiny details about Sanji’s past and to ask about the Vinsmokes. They also have somewhat similar family arrangements (beloved mother who died, adoptive father who raised them, elder sister with whom they became estranged but came to know how much their sisters loved them), and their dreams are subtly tied in that one cannot be completed without the other (Sanji can’t find All Blue without Nami’s navigation skills and Nami wouldn’t be able to complete her world map without finding All Blue).
3. Parental Roles
This is treading to headcanon territory except that Oda has already deemed Franky and Robin as the dad and mom of the SH crew.
While Sanji and Nami were deemed the 2nd older brother and the sister, I can’t help but see how they also assume parental roles. It’s part and parcel, I suppose, of their positions. As a cook, caretaker for Sanji is a natural extension. Meanwhile, Nami is in charge of budgeting the money for the crew. Both are traditional roles that a mother and father would have respectively. They’re also the disciplinarians of the more unruly members (*cough*Luffy*cough*) as Zoro tends to be devil-may-care and lets Luffy do what ever he wants, while Franky and Robin tend to be more laid-back. I actually really love this dynamic of theirs, especially when they’re with Chopper. ^^
4. Luffy Left the Saving of the Girls to Them
(#LuffyShipsFrobin2k18 #LuffyShipsSanami2k18, kidding aside though…)
5. HOW COULD I NOT SHIP THEM WHEN THERE ARE THESE?
There are actually plenty of other things, lap pillows, cute merchandise, how their differing personalities clash and mesh together (I like how either the girls or the boys can be the over-emotional one and the serious one and it makes for interesting dynamics), but all in all I just ship them plain and simple. It would be nice if both could become canon, but even if they didn’t, I’d still ship them.
